About The Print: A green landscape lined by an outcropping of trees backlit by a setting sun. Oil on canvas.
About The Artist: Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot was a French painter best known for his lyrical landscapes, he began painting seriously in his mid-20s after initially working in the family business. Corot traveled extensively, especially in Italy, where the light and scenery deeply influenced his art.
He became a master of plein air painting, capturing natural light and atmosphere with a delicate, silvery palette. Though primarily a landscape painter, he also produced sensitive portraits and figure studies. Corot’s later works became softer and more poetic, inspiring the Barbizon School and earning him recognition as a precursor to the Impressionists.
He was widely respected in his lifetime and generously supported younger artists. Today, Corot is celebrated as a key figure in 19th-century French art.
